Vigil Reunion 2008 - Completed

All,

It is nice to see everyone at the 2008 Tipisa Vigil reunion. I look forward making this an annual Tipisa happening. I will be working over the next couple of months to hopefully get it worked out that this could become a casual gathering of vigil members of Tipisa Lodge.

The 2008 event was a huge success. We had over 60 people in attendance, over 20 people signed up to get new vigil necklaces and many, many people paid their lodge dues. If you have any recommendations for next year, I would like to hear them.

I would like to thank Bob Voegele for helping me to make the day successful.

See everyone next year,

Howard

New Takachsin Chapter patch Ordeal 2009

January 2009, Takachsin will issue it's first new patch since 2007. This patch will be for the Ordeal weekend as it is stated on the patch. The patch has a cool design to make it look like the chapter is holding up the lodge when it is worn on the uniform.

The chapter is producing 225 patches and expects to sell out at the ordeal. The chapter is planning to sell the patch for $3 each (this is a nice change for the collectors) rather than the $4 common price. The chapter is also going to give 10 of the patches to the Tipisa Lodge Musuem auction box. The Museum normally purchases patches to later sell in the auction over the next several years.

If you are interested in purchasing any patches please let me know as usual.

New Micconope Chapter Patch Lock-in 2009

In January 2009, Miccanope chapter is coming out with it's newest patch (shown here). It is for the chapter's 2009 Lock-in.

The event is January 2009, the patch was designed with too short of notice and was ordered too late to have in time. Adler Denher (chapter member) is the designer. The patch is being pre-sold at the Lock-in in January. I believe the patch will be sold for $4 which is a standard price or a patch this size. The chapter has ordered 200 patches and expects to sell out.

Please contact me if you are interested in purchasing any.

2008 Tipisa Vigil Reunion - Update 12/12/08

Update, as of Friday December 12th, we have over 60 people signed up to come. It is a "pass the hat" donation for the food, give as little or as much. The idea I have heard about is having the proceeds from the reunion each year be put towards a James West ($1,000 Donation) for a future honoree to be named. Nothing is offical about this, but I am trying to find out if the lodge is interested.

Everyone please pass the word about this reunion, it is possible that your friends did not receive the postcard or email because the last address on record was not thier current address.

Please read this: We are fortunate in Central Florida Council that our Lodge recently (in 2006) opened a museum (located at the old first aid building behind the Rotary Lodge) after 20+ years of hopes, 2+ years and $13,000+ later we have a great museum at Camp La-No-Che. If anyone is interested in donating items to the Tipisa Lodge Museum , we will gladly accept items at the reunion or anytime. If the items are not a need for the collection we will add it to the annual lodge auction (held at the Spring Conclave) which all proceeds benefit the museum. If you are interested in making any kind of donation please let me know. Our museum is always looking for items.

Check out for futher updates when I get more information.

Thanks,

2008 Tipisa Lodge Vigil Reunion-Update 12/7/08

Update, as of Sunday December 7th, I sent out 446 postcards & an email to everyone that was ever registered in our lodge as vigil.

As of right now we have just under 50 people signed up to come. It is a "pass the hat" donation for the food, give as little or as much. It has not yet been determined if the proceeds will benefit anything in particular, but it has not been ruled out.

Patch Fellowship Gathering

On November 29th we had our Patch Fellowship gathering. I personally made some trades and sales and I know I was not the only one in the room. I will say it is the best one I have been to since inception. Many people felt the same way as me. The next time we get together will not be until March or April 2009. Look forward to having more people next time.

Rolling Hills District Cub Family Campout -Completed

The campout,

Went very well and had very few complaints. The highlight of the weekend for me, was the indian dacing performed by Steven from Takachsin Chapter. He not only danced, but he sang and he invited the adults as well as the kids to get out and dance.

It was a great event and look forward to the event in 2009.

New York City! - I know this post is late but better late than never.

Dawn and I went with Rick Obermeyer, a long time friend. Rick goes to New York several times a year and last year he agreed to help show us the places he has been to in New York.

The trip was awesome, we saw many sites in the city and ate very well.

I will have to do another post to put up pictures; that will take a bit for me to get added.

What did we do?

Arrived 8/28/08 - Walked 5th Ave, Waldorf Astoria, Caswell Massey, Tiffany's, Bergdorf Goodman, Takashimaya (Japanese Dept Store), Pomaire for Dinner (Chilean), St. Patrick's Cathedral and The Strand Bookstore.

8/29/08 - Breakfast at Athena's, Forbes Museum, Museum of the Native American, Ground Zero, Trinity Church near GZ, Chinatown and Little Italy, Wall Street, Lunch @ Grand Central Station, NYC Transit Museum, Battery Park, Castle Clinton NH Monument, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Dinner @ 2nd Ave Deli.

8/30/08 - Bagel breakfast near Madison Square Garden, Macy's Herald Square, Flat Iron Bldg., Strolled through East Village, picked up picnic lunch @ Dean & Deluca and ate in Washington Square, Museum of Natural History, "Wicked" at the Gershwin Theatre, Dinner at Halal Cart (gyro), Times Square.

8/31/08 - Bagel breakfast near Madison Square Garden, Post Office zip code 10001, Staten Island Ferry, Central Park, Dinner @ Carmine's, Brooklyn Museum

9/1/08 - Flew home.

It was a truely awesome trip and everyone had a great time.

Well this is kind of short notice, but I am leaving for New York City for 5 days, tomorrow. This has been 9 months in the waiting, I just never did a post on it.

Dawn and I along with our friend Rick are going to the big apple.

I will be sure to take lots of pictures and show them off when I return.

Tipisa 2008 - 2009 Chapter Ordeal Patch

Well, before you know it we will be starting the Tipisa chapter ordeal season. Starting in November Tipisa will have its first chapter ordeal. We will be having 14 ordeals, most chapters will combine with other chapters since the camp does not have 14 open weekends for each chapter to have it's own weekend. The Lodge will have a limited number of patches for sale at the end of the ordeal season, if you are interested they sell for $4.00 each. Drop me an email if you are interested in purchasing.

Coming Soon New Elauwit Chapter Patch

Elauwit chapter just ordered their newest chapter patch.

They are having 200 made and a sale price is not yet known.

This is a little different style then what they have had in the past but it still showcases their iconic figure the "Naked Blue Man".

I anticipate the patches will be on sale by the Fall Fellowship in September and maybe my Tee Pee Saw group will get them sooner.

You may ask, What is the Tee Pee Saw group? It is a collection of collectors who I have gathered together to form one large buying group. When a chapter issues a new patch I am able to sell the patch (to my group) for the same price they sell to their members for, because my group purchases 100 patches at a time. I do not release the names or # of patches purchased of the collectors in my group. The group was developed to help chapters get their patches sold faster and for the collectors to get the patches in their collections sooner. I do have a couple of requirements to being a member of the group and I am currently accepting new members if you are interested in joining, please contact me.

Inagural Post

Well this is it my first blog posting.

Where do I start...What's up with Owen? What is this about?

Well, we have to start with how did I become known as "Owen". It happened almost nine years ago, when I went to work for my current employer and my two new bosses Karl and Chuck they both agreed I would be hence forth known as Owen. I had to know why they wanted to called me by anything other than my real name. It turns out both of them watched the 1987 movie "Throw Mama from the Train" with Danny DeVito and Billy Crystal over prior weekend before I started my first day and they liked Owen.

I won't talk much about work because it is not where I get my inspiration for this blog.

My interests are:
Boy Scouts of America - Eagle Scout
Order of the Arrow - Vigil Honor, Founder's Award
Investments - Stocks
Ebay - Patches - OA

I have been invloved/participating in the Boy Scouts for 26 years. I started in Cub Scouts when I was 8 and never stopped being involved. I earned the rank of Eagle Scout at 16 and went on too get 2 palms. While I was climbing the ranks to Eagle Scout I was elected to join the Order of the Arrow (OA) and I completed my Ordeal in the Fall of 1988. The OA is where I have given the most amount of time over the last 7 years. I will have plenty of time to talk about positions held past and present, fun times and the great friends I have met over the years.

Ebay is a favorite place of mine to visit, I visit at least once a day. I collect OA patches (this is a topic for the future), Central Florida Council items and anything else that jumps out at me.

Stocks - I like to find stocks that are good for long term investments and stocks that are good short term investments. Goal is to make money. It is a topic I like to discuss but do not have anyone to share my enjoyment with.

I am glad I can share with you some of my interests and thru this blog I will be able to keep you up-to-date on "What's up with Owen?". I plan to post once a day about anything going on in the world or just with me and my family.

Talk to you soon.

Owen
